Ribbon Language

STAC were recently tasked with the solving the problem of attracting interest and customers to retail space set back from the main footpath.  To attract attention to shopfronts that were behind a rather heavy, obstructive colonnade and easily missed to the passer by.

The design response needed to be flexible so as to accommodate signage, provide flexibility to alter the location of the main entrance doors and hence signage locations as well as be malleable enough to twist, scalpt and shape to the requirements of the site.

The design solution is to embrace the rather heavy colonnade and use it to weave a 60m long perforated steel ribbon that can flex and change as the design of the units behind evolve during the design process.

This element not only provides a place for signage, attracts custom from oblique approach angles but also acts as a piece of art using the building as the wider canvas.
