Art Deco meets Africa

This project tasked us with designing a new Nando’s restaurant within a Grade II* listed Art Deco building.
The design outcome responds to and accentuates the original Art Deco design and radial nature of the structure, whilst referencing and acknowledging similar African forms that identify with the Nando’s brand.  This is achieved by exploring parallels between the geometry and motifs of Art Deco design and Africa Art & Architecture.

Whilst Burkina Faso Huts inspire the radial treatment, the ceiling & table inlays are a combination of Art Deco fan geometry and South African Ndebele patterns. The end result is a fusion of two identities that work hard to compliment each other.
