Knatchbull Road

This wonderful villa property built around the mid 1880’s and now converted to form two flat is located within the Minet Estate Conservation Area in Camberwell overlooking Myatt’s Fields.

The property is characteristic of the style of the period with a strong red brick elevation, simple stonework decoration around the entrance door and sash windows, a strong square bay window design and heavy eaves bracketry capped with a heavy pitched hip roof in Welsh slate.

The client who owns the top floor flat which is spread over the first and second floors wanted to bring the run down flat back to life with various amendments to the internal organisation of the flat while providing an additional bedroom to the second floor and two new bathrooms.

Externally the design amendments were kept to a minimum – permission was gained for reinstating the historic chimney stack, a new dormer to the front elevation and rooflights to the rear to provide natural light for the new bedroom and bathroom.

The client also wanted to be able to gain access to their garden directly from their first floor kitchen – we gained planning permission for a new door and spiral staircase from the kitchen down to the garden providing much needed improvement in the way the owner can use his mature garden.

Help was also provided in obtaining the landlords consent and providing advice during the build.
