Nando’s Edinburgh

In this project STAC played with a range of informal, reclaimed and up-cycled materials to produce a space that felt informal yet still had a sense of natural order.  The spaces were created by offsetting much larger volumes within a large shed like structure.  This led to a range of intimate spaces between these larger volumes, as if they had happened by chance.

This led to a feeling of one being outside, in a street, square or place that come about organically similar to those found in informal settlements throughout Africa and very similar to favelas of South America

Ordinary materials such as reinforcement mesh and pressed ceiling panels were aged and given a rusty patent then used to clad walls and create lighting features within the space.
