Nando’s Shepherds Bush, London

The 2015 refurbishment of this once old and tired restaurant sought to breathe new life into the area whilst extending the restaurant to the rear in order to provide additional internal covers.

The extension out the back was over an area that had previously been allocated for external dining. Our concept for this area was to provide additional internal covers whilst still maintaining a feeling of outdoors dining beneath a timber pergola. The structure for the extension is a gridshell of triangulated timber and glazed panels. The new structure returns down to form a wall which terminates just above the old brick party wall which was retained.

The woven lampshade was designed by STAC and woven with jute, dyed willow and wire by Lin Lovekin.

The refurbishment utilised reclaimed timber, upcycled glazed bricks and upcycled furniture that came out of the previous restaurant. These were complimented with contemporary African art, colour and distressed leather seating.

This project has been shortlisted for a Restaurant & Bar Design Award 2016.
