Rammed Earth Wall

12 June 2014

Our recently completed Rammed Earth Wall was constructed or rather hand crafted by a very passionate team at Earth Structures. Rick Lindsay who is extremely passionate about this method of construction was brought in from Australia to hand pick the very best of local materials whilst creating a work of art that is to form the backdrop to a new restaurant in East London.

The wall was rammed using locally sourced Hogin from the nearby Thames Eastury. We then introduced a purply aggregate in certain areas to create a vein or strata like effect within the wall. These stones will then be removed in places to create a deep crevice that will be uplit for dramatic effect.

This low-tech, understated, sustainable method for creating walls has really opened our eyes as to what is possible and we will no doubt return to this method for future designs.
